Join us on an extraordinary 8-day horseback riding trek through the stunning Tamir river valley and the foothills of the Khangai range in the Arkhangai region. Known for its captivating scenery, Arkhangai is a haven for hiking and horseback riding enthusiasts, where nomadic families raise yaks and craft renowned delicacies such as cheeses and smooth dried curds.
Ride alongside friendly horsemen as you traverse expansive grasslands, wooded hillsides, and lush river valleys, all supported by local herdsmen and their sturdy horses. Discover the beauty of the Khangai mountains and relax in the healing waters of the Tsenkher and Bor Taliin hot springs, each offering its own unique comforts. This journey invites you to immerse yourself in the ancient culture of nomadic herdsmen while exploring breathtaking vistas.
Arrival in UB and city tour
Upon your arrival in Ulaanbaatar, our local staffs (drivers and guide) will pick you up at the international airport of Chinggis khan. You will be transferred to a centrally located three-star hotel.
At noon, you will be escorted for a guided city tour that highlights the city’s most notable attractions, impressive National History Museum, Sukhbaatar Square and the Parliament building.
As the evening approaches, at 6:00 PM, experience a traditional Mongolian show at Tumen Ekh ensemble, featuring folk dances, contortion, and khoomii, the unique throat singing, followed by a welcome dinner.

Drive to Ogii Lake
We will start our day early with a six-hour drive, covering a distance of 370 km to Ogii Lake, a freshwater lake in central Mongolia. This lake is known for its rich biodiversity, including over 150 species of migrating birds and abundant fish such as Perch and Pike. It is vital stopover for migratory waterbirds, including Relic Gulls and Whooper Swans. Surrounded by hills, Ogii Lake is a great spot for leisure travelers, offering fishing, hiking, boating, and bird watching opportunities. Overnight stay in a cozy ger camp.

Heading to a Horse herder’s family in Arkhangai
Upon your arrival at the family’s home around lunchtime, you will receive a warm welcome from the host family, who will invite you to share a cup of tea and enjoy a delicious homemade meal. This is a wonderful opportunity to interact with them and learn about their daily lives.
The family lives on the beautiful banks of the Tamir River during the summer and moves to a forested valley in winter. They breed horses, yaks, and sheep, giving you a unique insight into their nomadic lifestyle. Staying with them will allow you to experience their rich culture.
You’ll have the chance to participate in daily tasks such as herding for livestock, preparing meals, and making traditional dairy products.
Tomorrow marks the start of your riding adventure from the home of your guiding family. After a week of horseback riding, you’ll return to this hospitable family, filled with new experiences and cherished memories.

On the horseback! Family’s ger to Nariin teel valley
After a hearty breakfast, it’s time to mount our horses—the adventure awaits! Today, we depart from the family’s summer camp and ride across relatively flat terrain until noon, when we’ll pause for a picnic. Afterward, we’ll navigate through riverbank bushes and willows, crossing the Tamir River on horseback two to three times throughout the day.
By late afternoon, we’ll set up our tented camp in Nariin Teel Valley. Throughout our journey, our drivers, vehicles, and a mini truck from our host family will accompany us, bringing a yurt to set up each evening. This promises to be a truly nomadic experience!

Nariin Teel valley to Urd Mogoi pass
After packing our camp and belongings into the mini truck, we’ll set out, initially traveling through the bushes during the morning. As the day progresses, we’ll turn our sights toward the mountains. We will primarily walk through hills and forests, crossing over the Urd Mogoi Pass before settling in for the night at its base.

Urd Mogoi pass to Tsenkher Hot Spring: A Soothing Journey
We will depart from our campsite in the direction of Tsenkher Hot Spring, crossing rivers and streams, and traversing lush green meadows. Eventually, we’ll navigate the high, wooded mountains of the Khangai Range. The hot spring, which reaches temperatures of up to 86.5 °C and contains hydrogen sulfide, is renowned for its numerous healing properties. We will take the time to fully enjoy the various pools and relax. Our overnight stay will be in the cozy Gers of a tourist ger camp.

Tsenkher Hot Spring to Bor Taliin Hot Spring
After leaving Tsenkher Hot Spring behind, our journey continues through lush valleys. Following a delightful lunch, we will make our way to Bor Taliin Hot Springs for the night. Unlike the first hot spring, this location features two open-air baths without any surrounding buildings, allowing us to fully appreciate the natural setting.
Soaking in the mineral waters, which are a favorite among locals, will be a delightful experience. Nearby, the sacred mountain Suvarga looms majestically, and we will almost arrive at its base. The hot springs here share volcanic origins with those at Tsenkher. Overnight in tented camp.

Bor Taliin Hot Springs to Uguumur Mountain Pass
From this point, we embark on our return journey, making our way back to our nomadic family. We will traverse the majestic Khangai mountain range, navigating through alpine meadows, marshlands, and V-shaped valleys. In the afternoon, upon ascending the Uguumur Pass, we will spend the night surrounded by its breathtaking vistas. It promises to be a long yet rewarding ascent.

Today, we continue our descent from the pass, navigating a variety of rugged terrains. Our path winds through wetlands and marshy streams, alongside rocky fields with craggy outcrops. As we proceed, we’ll arrive at the enchanting Uguumur Valley, where we’ll settle in for the night, embraced by the serene beauty of nature.

Uguumur Valley to Dund Teel hill
For today’s and tomorrow’s journey, we’ll be riding through beautiful mountains, winding ridges, hillsides, and thick forests. As we head downhill to the west, we’ll stop at a Stupa, a human-made spiritual monument for Buddhist believers, where we can enjoy lunch. Our day will end with a cozy overnight stay at the summit of Dund Teel Hill, where we’ll be treated to a peaceful atmosphere.

Last Day of Riding: Dund Teel to our host family
After a tasty breakfast atop the mountain, we will journey towards Sanjaa’s family, pausing for a delightful picnic along the way. Upon our arrival, we’ll settle into our Gers, and the rest of the day will be yours to relax and enjoy the warm camaraderie as we take part in their daily activities together.

Drive to the ‘Little Gobi’ via Kharkhorin, the Ancient Capital of the Mongol Empire
We will start our day early with a three-hour drive to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire from the 13th century until its destruction by the Ming Dynasty in the late 14th century. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the Kharkhorin Museum to learn about the rich history of the Mongol Empire and Genghis Khan.Next, we’ll explore the Erdene Zuu Monastery, the first significant Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, founded by Abtai Khan in the 16th century.
(Upon clients’ request, you can stay here for one day to relax and enjoy other activities, such as the calligraphy center and felt workshop. An extension fee will apply.)
Then, we will take a short drive covering a distance of 80 km to Khogno Khan Reserve, where we can enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Mongolia and the grandeur of the Gobi Desert. This area features lush grasslands, surprising sand dunes, and impressive rock formations in the Khogno Khan mountains.
Upon arriving at a local family’s home, we’ll be welcomed with warm hospitality and spend the night in a traditional ger, fully immersed in the charm of Mongolian culture

A camel ride amidst the Dunes and Back to Ulaanbaatar
In the morning, enjoy a camel ride for about 1-2 hours in the golden dunes. Then, return to Ulaanbaatar, traveling 280 km through the stunning Mongolian steppe, where you’ll see traditional gers and grazing livestock. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel, and enjoy the rest of the day to explore at your own pace. In the evening, we will come together for a farewell dinner.
